From language of a kechu of Lyaktapat it is translated into Russian as "the city of steps" or "the city of terraces". One of settlements of the great empire of Monks received the name thanks to a unique form of construction: incredibly long steps and several rows of horizontally located dwellings which are radially bordering the flat mountain bottom smoothly rising on a slope of the hill.
Lyaktapata is also known as Patalyakta or "The high city". The ancient Indian settlement is located in the valley of the river Urubamba (Cuzco department), at the height of two and a half kilometers above sea level. On fifteen kilometers to the north of "The city of steps" there is the well-known city of monks – Machu Picchu or "The heavenly city".
In opinion, Lyaktapat's scientists I held strategic position in the empire of Monks as passed the main roads of the country through it. On fields, adjacent to the city, the Peruvian Indians grew up various crops (potatoes, corn, etc.). They stored stocks of the food and the chicha made of corn in "The city of steps" — low alcohol alcoholic drink of ritual value. There is a version that Lyaktapata was used and as a place for commission of ceremonies, and as a temporary stop for rest on the way to Machu Picchu.
It is supposed that Lyaktapata was destroyed during Manko Ink Yupanki's retreat in the 1536th year. Thus the emperor of monks cut off the Spanish conquistadors from other important imperial cities. From former architectural greatness of Lyaktapata we were reached by external stone walls of houses with well remained doorways.
