In department Isabal in the southeast of Guatemala is a three-kilometer zone of archeological excavations of Quirigua. During the classical period of development of a civilization of the Maya this ancient city was on crossing of several important trade ways. Interesting sight of this place is the Acropolis which construction began in 550. The archaeological park Quirigua is known for high stone monuments. Considering that the city is located on a place of a transform geological fault and was in the ancient time subject to large earthquakes and floods, he should be visited to see the remained monuments and to estimate town-planning skills of ancient Maya.
