Pyotr's city in Jordan

In the ancient time Petra was the capital Idumei, and then Nabatei. The ancient city which is cut down in rocky breeds more than two thousand years ago is located in the territory of Jordan today and by right it is considered one of Seven wonders of the world.

The first structures of Petra had serf character. Residential and public buildings began to appear in it in process of development of regional trade. Standing on crossing of two caravan tracks (The Red Sea – Damascus, the Persian Gulf – Gaza), Petra long time was one of the richest cities of the Middle East. After opening by Romans of maritime trade routes the city began to fall into decay. Crusaders were the last owners of Petra. Then it got lost in sand.

Since the end of the XX century Petra is the most visited tourist object of Jordan. Fans of antiquities are waited in it by more than eight hundred historical sights, from which El-Jazne – the temple mausoleum which is cut down in the rock is main. Scientists assume that the stone construction was a place of worship the goddess Isida, but exact data on its mission aren't present so far.

Conducting to El-Jazne Road there passes through the gorge a Whitefish. Along it stone sculptures and rocky bas-reliefs settle down. The Whitefish is especially beautiful at night when on Petra's streets light more than two thousand candles.

On Fasadov Square it is possible to admire the temples and tombs acting from rocks. Royal tombs of Petra are near the Roman amphitheater calculated on seven thousand audience. Important historical sights of the city is "Gore Aaron" and "Gore of sacrifices", "The palace of the daughter of the Pharaoh" and "A cave of Christians".
