Lamangai, Belize

Ruins are located on the bank of a lagoon in the district of Orange Walk in the North central part of Belize. In translation from the Maya language the name of the city numbering three thousand-year history is meant by "the drowned crocodile". Unlike others the mayanskikh of the cities of Lamangai was still populated when in the 16th century the Spanish conquistadors intruded here. During the excavation which is carried out in the 1970th years three considerable structures were the focus of attention: Temple of the Mask, Temple of the Jaguar and High temple. To appear among these ruins located deeply in the jungle it is necessary to join organized water excursion from the city of Orange Walk. There is a small museum the Maya showing ancient artifacts and telling about history.
