Acropolis of Athens, Greece

It is considered that the Acropolis of Athens ("the top city") was based by the first tsar of Attica – Kekropsom. During the Mycenaean period the flat top of the hill was occupied by the imperial residence which is reliably strengthened by fortifications.

Temple construction in the Acropolis began in the VII-VI centuries BC. On a place of the ancient palace the temple of the patroness of the city – the goddess of Athena was built. The second round of construction fell on the period of the end of the Greek-Persian wars and time of restoration of the Acropolis spent under the leadership of the well-known sculptor Pheidias. We can also observe this townscape in Athens today.

The Acropolis of Athens consists of twenty one historical objects. The main sight of the city is Parthenon – the majestic temple devoted to Afine-Devstvennitse. Near it there is it a predecessor – Gekatompedon and Erekhteyon built in honor of the tsar Erekhtey, Athena and Poseidon.

The largest sight of the Acropolis of Athens is Dionysus's theater. Located on a southeast slope of the hill, it contained in itself(himself) about seventeen thousand audience. On the right and to the left of Dionysus's theater are two smaller by the size cultural "hall" — Herodotus's Odeum of Attica and Pericles's Odeum. The last with Dionysus's theater is connected by walking gallery of Evmen.

In the territory of the Acropolis of Athens there are Zeus, Asclepius, Niki Apteros, Dionysus, Pandion and Aglavra's sanctuaries – daughters of the tsar Kekrops. A unique architectural monument of the antique period are Propilei – the smart entrance framed with porticoes and colonnades. Halkoteka close to Parthenon represents the construction of warehouse type used for storage of sacrificial utensils and the city weapon.
